又一名を Kokumetra と云ふ、この島、古は無かりしがオン子コタン島の Pii-moi-tō 沼より Katruokuru なる神、手にて拔き取り此島に投げ出したるものなりと云ふ、この神がかくなせしは、最初この沼に夥多しく鳥獸の寄り集まり來りやかましかりし故なりと
Torii gives a second name Kokumetra and the tale that the island did not exist of old: the god Katruokuru pulled it out of the lake Pii-moi-tō on Onekotan and threw it here, because the birds and beasts crowding that lake made too much noise. No etymology is offered.
