etymology

yay-i-tupa-re 'mind oneself' → 'be careful' (vi). Medial antipassive i- and causative -re are ANALYST-INFERRED: no consulted dictionary segments them (Tamura 1996 brackets the stem as a single unit), and the split does not balance under the synchronic valency engine — yay-/i- both target the single patient slot and -re re-adds one, over-generating arity. Recorded here as ETYMOLOGY, not engine-load-bearing composition. Phonology: fast-speech variants by i-deletion after the glide y (yay-i- > yay-/yai-), Tamura verbatim s.v. eyayitupare/eyaytupare. Lexical high pitch on the slot-II i (Tamura: 'yi イ の部分を高く発音する'); the claim that the pitch re-docks after i-deletion is unattested analyst reconstruction.
